BDA SYSTEM INSTALLATIONS FOR CODE COMPLIANCE

Meet NFPA & IFC Public Safety DAS Standards
  • Critical areas (e.g. stairwells, fire command rooms, equipment rooms): 99% in‑building coverage required per NFPA standards.
  • Other areas: minimum 95% coverage as defined by IFC Section 510
  • Minimum signal strength: ‑95 dBm for both uplink and downlink in every coverage zone.
  • Coverage verification through a grid-based test (typically 20 or 40‑point per floor) using public-safety radios. Testing includes full commissioning, authority acceptance, and ongoing annual performance tests
  • All public‑safety DAS/BDA systems must include 24‑hour battery backup capability, per IFC Section 510 requirements
  • NEMA‑4 rated enclosures for all DAS/BDA head‑end equipment to ensure protection from dust, water, and environmental exposure.
  • Amplifier isolation: antenna isolation must exceed amplifier gain by at least 15 dB, to prevent feedback or interference.
  • Fire survivability: All emergency radio system cables must be two-hour fire-rated (e.g. UL 2196 certified like RFS DragonSkin, or protected with two-hour rated pathways)
  • Submit detailed design plans, test reports, and commissioning documentation to your local Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) for approval and permitting (per IFC and NFPA guidance).
  • Annual testing and maintenance are mandatory to sustain compliance, including tests of coverage, amplifier gain, alarms, and battery backup performance
