Touchless access control lets authorized people open a door without inserting a key, swiping a card, or pressing a keypad. The reader picks up a credential at a short distance, usually a smartphone or a contactless card or fob, and releases the lock. Connect that reader to an automatic door operator and the entire entry becomes hands-free.
The technology first gained attention as a hygiene upgrade, but most organizations now choose it for practical reasons. Busy entrances move faster. Employees already carry the credential in their pocket. Lost cards and copied keys stop being a security risk, because any credential can be switched off from the software in seconds. And every entry is logged, so you always know who came through which door and when.
