Public Safety DAS is Now Mandatory

Providing reliable indoor connectivity for first responders is our top priority.

From First Signal Test to Ongoing Maintenance for Atlanta Facilities

PUBLIC SAFETY DAS, START TO FINISH

ONE PARTNER FOR SURVEY, DESIGN, INSTALLATION AND TESTING

Atlanta’s skyline, corporate campuses, universities, hospitals and data centers create a wide range of challenges for emergency radio. Deep parking decks, concrete stair cores and shielded equipment rooms can leave responders without a dependable link to their teams just when they need one.

A Public Safety Distributed Antenna System (DAS) addresses that by extending the public safety radio network indoors. An exterior donor antenna collects the signal, a Bi-Directional Amplifier (BDA) strengthens it, and a distribution network of cable and antennas delivers it to the spaces where coverage is weak, carrying transmissions both in and out.

TELECO manages the full life of these systems in Atlanta, GA. Instead of juggling separate vendors for the survey, the design and the installation, building owners work with one team that knows the system from the first measurement onward.

STEP ONE: MEASURE WHAT YOU HAVE

EVERY PROJECT STARTS WITH DATA. TELECO’S ENGINEERS TAKE SIGNAL MEASUREMENTS THROUGHOUT YOUR ATLANTA FACILITY, MAP THE WEAK AREAS AND USE THOSE RESULTS TO DESIGN A PUBLIC SAFETY DAS THAT ANSWERS WHAT YOUR LOCAL FIRE MARSHAL IS LOOKING FOR. CONTACT US TO BOOK A SURVEY.

STEP TWO: UNDERSTAND THE REQUIREMENTS

Many local fire codes, based on the International Fire Code (IFC) and NFPA standards, require in-building emergency responder radio coverage. Your local fire marshal—the Authority Having Jurisdiction, or AHJ—determines what applies to your building, and the metro area includes a number of separate jurisdictions, each with its own fire officials.

That is why the right starting point is a conversation grounded in your actual building: its location, occupancy type, size and survey results. Those details shape the coverage targets, the areas treated as critical and the paperwork that will be reviewed.

TELECO helps Atlanta owners, developers and facility teams organize that information and translate it into a clear, buildable system design.

STEP THREE: DESIGN AND INSTALL

With survey data and requirements in hand, TELECO engineers select the amplifier, plan antenna locations and lay out the cable routes. Campus projects may call for linking several buildings to a shared head end, while a single high-rise may need careful planning around risers and elevator shafts.

Because the system retransmits licensed public safety frequencies, the license holder generally needs to authorize it before it is switched on. The installation is also coordinated with the local building and fire departments so plans and field work stay aligned.

Our installation crews work from the approved design, label and document everything they put in, and test as they go. Since standards are revised from time to time, we also leave practical room for future changes.

The result is a system your team understands, with drawings and records that make the next step easier.

STEP FOUR: TEST AND MAINTAIN

Once installed, a Public Safety DAS is normally verified through commissioning and acceptance testing. Many jurisdictions also expect periodic performance testing and checks of the battery backup that keeps the system running if building power fails. TELECO provides these testing services for Atlanta facilities and can return as the building changes, whether that means a tenant build-out, a new wing or an equipment upgrade.

WHAT YOU GET WITH TELECO IN ATLANTA

Continuity is the biggest advantage of working with one team. The engineers who survey your building are connected to the people who design, install and later test it, so nothing gets lost between phases and questions have a single point of contact.

TELECO’s FirstNet™ system supports first responder radio equipment and can be scaled as your campus or portfolio grows. TELECO’s Public Safety DAS engineers design to Emergency Responder Radio Coverage System (ERRCS) guidance and to the requirements of the AHJ that oversees your property.

Office towers, campuses and venues often need better cellular capacity too. TELECO can design in-building systems that combine DAS with Small Cells, which are low-power cellular nodes that add capacity in high-traffic spaces. We evaluate each facility and recommend the technology mix that fits how it is used.
